Experience the Difference

Converging Currents boasts a diverse team, encompassing both seasoned counselors and newcomers. We recognize the value in every stage of a counselor’s career. Fresh perspectives from new therapists prevent stagnation in our work, while seasoned therapists offer their wealth of experience. Our embrace of practicum students serves two key purposes: it fosters ongoing growth within our team and enables us to provide affordable counseling through a sliding scale, ensuring access to the quality and care associated with private practice.

Regular team meetings and occasional student session observations (with client consent) are integral to our approach, benefiting our clients significantly. These collaborative meetings allow us to address questions and challenges, offering fresh insights and ensuring thorough client care. Collaborative sessions, involving multiple counselors, provide an extra layer of support for clients, introducing new perspectives and additional resources. We are passionate about team collaboration.

Practicum students work independently under the supervision of a senior counsellor. This senior counsellor actively participates in sessions with students and remains readily available for support and guidance. Clients are encouraged to reach out to the student’s supervisor with any questions or concerns. Working with a student counsellor provides the advantage of two counsellors dedicated to supporting your journey.

BBA, MACP, Student Counsellor

I was raised in Cranbrook, BC with my four siblings. As a child, I always enjoyed playing outdoors, riding my bike, and making new friends. I was very social and always looking for meaningful relationships. Others would often speak about my determination which I believe is what got me to where I am today.

I have faced and continue to face many challenges in my life where fear tries to take over. I find motivation through my girls and wanting to show up as my best self for those around me, and I change my hardships into opportunities for growth. This journey has no final destination, but it is a continuous process. The first step is getting started and knowing you don’t have to do it alone.

Based on a Sliding Scale – see below

We understand not everyone has extended benefits or the means to afford the cost of counselling. For this reason we do offer a limited amount of sliding scale spots with our student counsellor for those who qualify for this assistance. Please contact us to find out more if you feel you would benefit from this program.

RCSW – Individual / Couples / Youth / Children Counsellor

I grew up in Northwestern Ontario in a rural mining community. I completed my undergraduate degree in social work in 2004 and shortly after relocated to British Columbia. I attended graduate school in Prince George and eventually moved down and settled in central interior. I am fortunate that my immediate family members also relocated to British Columbia. I am the mother of three young children and and the proud auntie to a wonderful niece.

I ascribe to a strength based approach to supporting individuals, couples, children and families. I am passionate about learning how client perceive themselves and the world and how life experiences (positive and negative) alter our sense of self and the world. My practice is client centered, diversity affirming and non judgmental.

M.ED, RCC – Individual Counsellor

I grew up in Nelson BC, but I have spent much of my adult life exploring professional opportunities in the Northwest Territories and Northern BC. It was not until I became a father that I felt drawn back to the Kootenays. Moving to Kimberley has meant moving home and embracing my roles as a husband, father, brother and uncle.

When I’m not working at Selkirk Secondary School as a counsellor, I am an avid gardener, skier and canoeist. I feel privileged to live on the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa and Secwepemc peoples and strive towards raising my children in a way that honors and embraces the natural world.

I grew up on a farm on Vancouver Island, just outside of Victoria, BC. My favourite activities growing up were riding horses, building forts and spending time hiking through the many acres of crown land surrounding our family home. I learned to navigate in the wilderness, because it was my backyard. The outdoors became an oasis and refuge from the challenges and difficulties that occurred within my family.

Through facing my own challenges and learning to persevere through distressing life circumstances, I learned to face my own mental health. Learning how to respond to myself when I was in distress. I believe that those who choose to journey with themselves, on a self-reflective and self-aware sojourn, are the bravest of all.
