Which services are right for you?
Counselling can take place in a variety of ways and settings, so I offer various services to accommodate your needs.
- Couples Counselling
- Family Therapy
- Counselling for children and teenagers (toddlers and up)
- Individual Sessions
- Group Sessions
- Workshops on specific topics for groups of 6-10 people.
Please keep in mind I will not provide both individual counselling and also couples counselling modalities to you. I will ask you to find a separate counsellor for one of these formats, if you’re wanting both simultaneously.
Ethically, trying to be both your individual therapist, while also your couples counsellor, can create a conflict of interest. It can also effect your sense of emotional safety in either your individual or couples’ session.
If you and your partner are wanting couples counselling, I ask that you both start together. The reason for this is, because I strive to create an unbiased and equally balanced relationship with both individuals coming to couples counselling. If one person starts individually and their spouse starts later, the partner starting later is relationally at a disadvantage. They will not have had the same time or opportunity to create the same relationship with the therapist, as the person who came to more sessions.
Please also be aware that I am not a Crisis Counsellor – I can’t fix anyone’s challenges or issues in one session. Change is a process that requires you to hold the vision for where you want to get to, while trusting the process to get you there. Counselling is a process and you need time to build a relationship with your therapist that allows you both to assess what’s going on in your life. I do not believe you can do this in one session.
If you are looking for just a “one off session” or a “quick fix”, my suggestion is to look for someone offering “Brief Therapy”. They will focus less on assessment and relationship and more on giving you some quick tools and suggestions for the immediate crisis you are facing.
My belief is that this is not a permanent or long term solution. Not even for crisis. And that counselling weekly over the course of a few months will provide you with more permanent and lasting results. Typically most individuals need anywhere from 8 to 15 sessions to notice improvements in their lives. It is an investment you won’t regret.
