Reauthoring Your Experiences
I believe our stories have a powerful impact on the life we lead and if we choose, they can be re-authored to shape the futures we want.
My hope is to partner with you in a culturally sensitive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental way by creating a safe space for you to explore your current needs, challenges and future hopes for living the life you desire.
I have a passion for discovering, alongside you, your strengths and values. I enjoy inviting clients to utilize these in their journey towards wellness, whether that be through talk therapy, art, music or other expressive modalities that resonate with you. I seek to find the method that best unlocks your story and experiences and allows you to journey towards healing.
PLEASE NOTE: Allison Sloan is on Maternity Leave until 2024 – Please check back in the new year for an updated timeline on when she will be returning to work.
Clinical Counsellor
Loss and difficult experiences in my life have taught me a lot about re-building my identity and self-worth in the aftermath of these experiences. I learned to heal through my own experience with counselling, and through other positive influences, like strong relationships, travel, the outdoors, and art. These experiences helped me find purpose in life and both the good and bad transformed me into who I am today. I believe counselling is a positive and necessary aspect of self-care in ones life and seek counselling for myself counsellors for maintaining my own mental well-being. Counselling provides a perspective and lens that cannot be gained from the point of view of your self. I have learned that we all need others to help us grow in our own self-awareness and self-reflective abilities. I value practicing what I preach as much as I value the privilege of supporting others through life’s waves.

Professional Background
Allison learned early on in my life that she had a love of walking paths of growth and change alongside others. Allison began journeying with children and families as a behaviour interventionist and respite care worker. Through this experience, Allison learned to support children’s diverse abilities and needs.
She built on this learning by pursuing a Therapy Assisting Diploma in Kelowna, BC. After assisting in physiotherapy practice with children, it became increasingly difficult to ignore the family and child’s need for mental health support. Allison noticed that these families and their children were facing many emotional obstacles and unexpected life changes as they navigated and learned to cope with their child’s diagnosis and new abilities.
Allison continued to learn about health and wellness in completing her bachelor’s degree in health science. During this time Allison worked as an education assistant at a middle school.
Soon after completing her Bachelor’s Degree, Allison began her master’s in Counselling Psychology. During her Master’s Program and practicum experience Allison specialized in working with youth. Her education and training included using a trauma-informed lens with her clients, as well as, using Solution Focused Behaviour therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural therapy.
After graduating, Allison’s experience and passions have only continued to grow.
